Prayer is Essential

Prayer has always been a pretty regular part of my life, but over the years it has changed. It started with the typical recited meal time prayers  or even The Lord’s Prayer. Then I gave my heart to Jesus and my mom encouraged me to journal my prayers. (I had witnessed her journaling many times.) To this day I journal on a very regular basis! I love to write and I love to put my thoughts out on paper, especially to GOD!

Between our assigned training, mentoring, personal testimonies, book reading, Bible study, and even a Ladies’ Tea at our local church I have taken in a lot of information on how essential prayer really is! God’s word says, “pray continually” (1 Thes 5:17), and in Ephesians 6 prayer is listed as one of the seven pieces of The Armor of God, a tool to fight off the devil’s wiles.

Our prayers for children have changed over the last few months. We have found a huge benefit in praying specific, bold prayers for them at night as well as during tough everyday moments that occur. I have also found it very essential when doing Letty’s homeschooling. (There have been some learning difficulties that have come up with her.)

I mentioned a Ladies’ Tea… Letty was very excited about tagging along!

IMG_0435The guest speaker was a woman by the name Joanne Shelter. She was a missionary in the Philippines for many years. She wrote the book “And the Word of God Came With Power”, I highly recommend it! She shared with us her story…an incredible story of how prayer paved her path and the Lord provided all her needs even to the point of near death! But all along her path when prayer was uttered in faith she received what she asked for. Just like Matthew 21:22 states, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Then today, I had the opportunity to experience an entire room of people laying their hands on me to pray for me! What an overwhelmingly, powerful feeling! I often think of prayer being this proper thing that needs to be done on my knees, hands folded, eyes closed. But there is just something pretty incredible to have an entire room of people see your pain and circle around you, placing their hands on you to petition the LORD our God! In a way you can feel the Spirit run through everyone and you truly become One Body in Christ!

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” – 2 Timothy 1:6
